One of the interesting points of Metaphor: ReFantazio is that the game's mechanics allow you not to focus too much on certain activities and end up having to follow a walktrough or guide. Instead, the game is more friendly and offers you the freedom to explore the gameplay and story.
However, this doesn't mean that this game is easy as there are some aspects that make this game challenging to play. So that you can play this game more easily, here are 10 tips for playing Metaphor: ReFantazio based on our experience:
Upgrade Your Character's Magic Status
The protagonist character in Metaphor: ReFantazio is the only character whose status can be upgraded. Other characters like Strohl and Hulkenberg will have their status automatically upgraded when they level up. The problem is, both of them only focus on certain stats. Strohl focuses on attack status, while Hulkenberg on endurance status.
Although there will be companion characters that focus on smallness later, we feel that raising the main character's magic status will make this game easier to play. First, because the elemental damage in Metaphor: ReFantazio is very strong. Secondly, Archetype magic can provide an MP capacity upgrade which means you can bombard enemies with magic more freely.
Upgrade Follower Rank of the Archetype Used
Each character in the party has an Archetype and to make them stronger, you must increase the Follower Rank of that Archetype. For example, the Archetype Healer whose Follower is Maria, while Brigitta is a Follower of the Archetype Merchant.
We highly recommend that you increase the Follower Rank of the Archetype that you often use. You can do this by running quests or interacting with the Follower character. We also recommend at least increasing the minimum to Follower Rank 4 so that you can be more adventurous.
Don't Overuse MAG
MAG is the "currency" that you can use to do everything related to the Archetype. Starting from unlocking Archetypes and their skills, to doing the skill inheritance process. At the beginning of the game, MAG is so easy to obtain that we were tempted to spend it. But never spend MAG at the beginning of the game.
The further you venture, the more expensive upgrades that require MAG. So never overuse MAG. Not only that, some bosses in Metaphor: ReFantazio also force you to create very specific teams, and overhauling the Archetype structure certainly requires MAG.
One more thing, never exchange money for MAG at NPCs if you don't want to lose!!!
Always Shop on Idlesday
Just like MAG, money is also easy to earn in this game. And just like MAG, never get stuck with a situation where you run out of money in the middle of your adventure because you were so wasteful at the beginning of the game. Yes, be frugal even in the game!
To avoid this, always shop on Idlesday because almost all merchants provide discounts on that day. Use Idlesday to restock materials such as medicinal herbs whose price drops from 50 to 40 gold. It's not much at first glance, but if you buy 100 pieces of medicinal herbs, you can save 1000 gold!
Healer Archtype Upgrade Soon
Healer is one of the most important Archetypes to upgrade immediately. Besides being able to help ease the burden of battle through its healing support, this Archetype is also needed to complete quests from More. Healer Archetype is also very helpful in the early game because most enemies are very weak to light elements.
To obtain and upgrade the Helaer Archetype, you must interact with Maria who is the daughter of Grius.
Prioritize Maria!
Speaking of Maria, we also highly recommend that you prioritize increasing her Follower Rank. First, of course, to upgrade your Helaer Archetype. Secondly, when reaching Follower Rank 4, Maria will give Speed Cooking and Purpose skills that allow you to cook without spending half a day and provide extra EXP after defeating enemies.
Not only that, at Follower Rank 7 you will also receive the Chef's Chop and Burning Purpose skills which will upgrade the previous skills. So you can cook faster and get more experience from defeated enemies.

Prioritize Tolerant Status at the Start
Metaphor: ReFantazio has a unique mechanic called Royal Virtues, which you can upgrade through various activities. We highly recommend raising the Tolerant status to level 2 at the beginning of the game.
Once you reach level 2, you'll be able to item purify at St. Fermis Chruch. Many of the weapons and armor you find have to go through the item purify process first, and a lot of the equipment has a very good status.
For example, the Dragon's Indignation Greatsword can be obtained from defeating the Fire Dragon Mauna in Nord Mines early in the game. These special weapons will make your early-game adventure much easier.
Do Sidequests Before Going to the Main Dungeon
This is actually a tip that all gamers should already understand. But we have to emphasize it. Almost all main dungeons have a much higher difficulty level compared to sidequests.
Throughout the sidequests, you can level up your characters and make your party more prepared. As such, it's highly recommended that you always do all the sidequests before going to the main dungeon.
Become a Debate Expert
After exiting Nord Mines and arriving at the Royal Capital, you can see the podium in the center of the city. We highly recommend that you check it every day as you can later debate with the politicians there. There are several advantages to doing this, namely:

- You can earn two Royal Virtues points (Eloquence and Imagination) at the same time.
- You can become more popular
- You can get special achievements
In addition, you can also expose the corrupt nature of politicians through podium debates.
Find an MP Item Seller Immediately!
One of the obstacles when exploring dungeons in Metaphor: ReFantazio is that you will often run out of MP. So we have two suggestions for that.
First, don't use healing skills at the beginning of the game. Use healing items that are widely available. Secondly, you can look for merchants who sell items to restore MP. One of the merchants we recommend is The Entero Water Shop in Royal Capital, which sells Fruit Cordials. The item can restore 30 MP once used.
