SEGA and Creative Assembly released a Game Overview video for Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition on October 7, 2026. The video showcases various updates and improvements in the latest version of this strategy game. Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition is scheduled to be released on PC on October 13, 2026.

This Complete Edition retains the original game's design. The main changes are improved graphics, lighting, and textures. The game also features a redesigned UI and more modern controls. A complete list of changes is available at Total War Official Blog.

64-bit upgrade and support for modern displays

Total War: SHOGUN 2 was first released in 2011. The game is now about 15 years old, so some of its technical aspects no longer meet current PC standards. The Complete Edition includes several technical fixes for these issues.

The following are the technical improvements in the Complete Edition:

  • Upgrade to 64-bit
  • Improved stability
  • Borderless full-screen mode
  • Support for scalable UI on 1440p, 4K, and ultrawide displays

64-bit applications can use more RAM than 32-bit applications. Support for a scalable UI is also important for gamers with high-resolution monitors. With this feature, the UI size can be adjusted to remain easy to read on a 4K screen.

New visuals and an Ukiyo-e-style campaign video

Visually, the Complete Edition improves the quality of textures, models, lighting, shadows, fog, and environments. The game also utilizes modern rendering technology. Players can choose anti-aliasing and upscaling options based on their PC’s capabilities.

The Complete Edition also includes a new campaign movie in a 2.5D style. This visual style is inspired by Ukiyo-e, the traditional Japanese art of painting and woodblock printing. This feature is optional, so you can choose whether or not to use it.

More flexible campaign options and battle controls

The Complete Edition adds several new options to the campaign. One of them is the Realm Divide setting. Realm Divide is a system in SHOGUN 2 that causes many clans to become the player’s enemies when the player becomes too powerful. In the Complete Edition, the settings for this system can be adjusted.

In addition, there’s the Quick Deal diplomacy feature. The Complete Edition also features more than 50 minor factions that are now officially playable.

There are also changes to battle mode.

Here are the changes to the battle controls in the Complete Edition:

  • Updated hotkeys
  • Easier movement and rotation of the unit
  • New bird's-eye view of the battle

Quality-of-life settings and language support

The Complete Edition also includes a variety of quality-of-life features. Players can customize the overlay and battle UI to suit their needs. There are also color presets for the game’s visuals.

Voice and text languages can now be set separately. This means you can choose a voice language that’s different from the text language. Access to the diplomacy and troops menus has also been made faster.

In terms of localization, the Complete Edition fully supports Japanese and Chinese. The game also adds text support for Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, and Latin American Spanish. Indonesian is not included in this list of languages.

Free DLC and a 75% discount for existing owners

Owners of the original version of Total War: SHOGUN 2 will receive all Legacy DLCs at no additional cost. The only exception is the Blood Pack. This DLC is not included due to age rating restrictions.

Owners of the original version will also receive a loyalty discount of 75% for the Complete Edition. This discount is available for a limited time only. Information on pricing, terms, and how to purchase is available on the official Complete Edition FAQ page.

All of the above changes and improvements are available only in the Complete Edition. The original version of Total War: SHOGUN 2 remains available and playable as is. Players can also continue their campaigns with full access to existing mods.
