Duolingo officially extends its chess learning feature to the Android. After its initial launch on iOS in late 2025, the Player-vs-Player (PvP) Chess mode is now available to Android users starting February 12, 2026.

“We saw strong engagement from learners who tried the Chess PvP mode on iOS. By bringing it to Android, we can reach more users, especially in mobile-first markets like Indonesia,” said Irene Tong.

He added, “Going forward, we are preparing a number of updates to make the PvP experience more friendly and enjoyable, especially for novice players. Chess is not just about strategy, but also about connecting with others and honing critical thinking skills.”
Pop-up Events in Jakarta and Future Plans
Celebrating this launch, Duolingo held an activation pop-up Chess at Blok M Literacy Park, Jakarta. The event is still ongoing until February 13, 2026. The area was transformed into an interactive learning zone complete with a large chessboard.
Visitors can meet the King Duo mascot, take part in chess challenges, live puzzle sessions, and earn exciting prizes.
