The world of extraction shooters has a new competitor. Sharkmob, a studio formed by former developer The Division, officially announced Exoborne-an open-world shooter game with a unique extraction system. The game has just entered the playtest stage on Steam, giving players the chance to experience it first-hand before its official release.

Exoborne: A Combination of Extraction Shooter and Extreme Weather

Since its announcement on The Game Awards 2023, Exoborne immediately attracted attention with its concept of combining extraction shooter gameplay with dynamic environments. Set in a world devastated by natural disasters and climate change, players will join a three-person team equipped with Exo-Rig-a technology that allows them to deal with extreme weather, including devastating tornadoes.

Inside ExobornePlayers must not only fight against other teams and AI enemies, but also make strategic use of the environment. Raging tornadoes can be both a threat and an opportunity to defeat enemies in unusual ways. Plus, dynamic events and high-stakes missions add variety to each game session.

Test System and Platform Availability

Exoborne is currently undergoing a playtest on Steam from February 12 to 17, 2025. This playtest provides an opportunity for PC players to sample the game mechanics and provide feedback to the developers. Although currently only available on PC, Sharkmob has confirmed that the game will also be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Developed with Unreal Engine 5, Exoborne promises stunning visuals as well as optimized performance. However, unlike many other modern shooters, Sharkmob ensures that this game will not adopt a free-to-play model. Exoborne will be released as a premium game, although pricing details and the exact release date are still under wraps.

Exoborne's Future in the Extraction Shooter Genre

With a track record of developers who have handled The Division, Exoborne brings great hope to fans of the shooter genre. The extraction system combined with extreme weather challenges and team-based strategy elements make this game a more complex experience than its competitors.

The community's enthusiasm for the game is quite high, mainly because of the reactive environment concept and various other interesting features. The ongoing playtest can be an early indicator of how players will respond to the gameplay mechanics on offer.

For those who are curious about ExoborneIt's time to take part in the playtest and see for yourself how this game takes the extraction shooter genre to the next level. With unique mechanics and an ambitious approach, Exoborne could be one of the games worth waiting for in 2025.
