The latest news about Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) is making waves in the gaming world once again. This time, CEO of Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar Games' parent company), Strauss Zelnick, made a statement alluding to the possibility of a PC version of this highly anticipated game. Although there has been no official confirmation, Zelnick acknowledged that the PC platform has an increasingly important role in the gaming industry today.
The Reason GTA VI Didn't Release on PC Right Away
As many gamers already know, Rockstar Games has a habit of releasing their games first on consoles before finally heading to PC. This tradition has been going on since the era of GTA VIt first arrived on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, only to follow on PC two years later in 2015.
The same is true for Red Dead Redemption II. The game was released first on consoles in 2018, while the PC version only launched a year later. From this pattern, many assume that GTA VI will most likely use a similar release scenario.
Currently, Rockstar has only announced GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a release schedule around fall 2025. There is no official information on when the game will be coming to PC.
Take-Two Recognizes the Importance of PC
In his interview with IGN, Zelnick explained that Take-Two doesn't have a single strategy in releasing games on multiple platforms. Some games, such as Civilization VII, released simultaneously on PC, consoles, and Nintendo Switch. However, for other games-especially those developed by Rockstar-they usually start with consoles first before eventually venturing into PC.
Interestingly, Zelnick also revealed that PC versions of multiplatform games can account for up to 40% of total sales. This figure shows how big the PC market is in the gaming industry today. According to him, this trend will continue to grow and become an important consideration for game developers in the future.
GTA VI Could Drive Console Sales
In addition to discussing the possibility of a PC version, Zelnick also highlighted the impact of GTA VI on the console industry. According to him, a game like GTA 6 will be a big boost to the sales of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This is reasonable considering how every release of Grand Theft Auto has always managed to capture the attention of gamers around the world.
Many analysts also believe that Rockstar deliberately delayed the PC version to get more gamers to buy consoles first. This is not a new strategy, but something the company has been doing for a long time to maximize profits from multiple platforms.
Hope for PC Gamers
Although there is no certainty when GTA VI will be released on PC, Zelnick's statement is quite hopeful for PC gamers. Given the importance of the PC market and Rockstar's tradition of releasing their games, many are optimistic that a PC version of GTA VI is only a matter of time.
For those of you who are still wondering, should you buy a console now or wait for the PC version? If you look at Rockstar's previous patterns, you'll most likely have to be patient for at least a year or two after the release on consoles before you can finally enjoy GTA VI on PC. Are you ready to wait?
