Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest entry in Capcom's Monster Hunter series, has recorded remarkable achievements since its launch on February 28, 2025. The game not only broke the record for the number of concurrent players on Steam but also brought the platform to an all-time high number of users.
Record Number of Players on Steam
According to data from SteamDB, on its launch weekend Monster Hunter Wilds managed to record over 1.38 million players playing simultaneously on Steam. This figure not only makes it the second most played game on the platform, after Counter-Strike 2, but also surpasses other popular titles such as PUBG and Dota 2.

This is three times higher than any previous Monster Hunter game and is the highest ever for a game launched by Capcom.
The launch of Monster Hunter Wilds also contributed significantly to the record number of active users on Steam. On the same weekend, Steam recorded more than 40 million concurrent online users, the highest number the platform has ever achieved.
Feedback and Technical Issues in Monster Hunter Wilds
Despite its numerical success, Monster Hunter Wilds received mixed reviews from users. On Steam, only 53% players gave positive reviews, with many complaints related to the game's technical performance, especially on the PC version.
Reported issues included poor performance and bugs that hindered game progress. Digital Foundry even stated that they could not recommend the PC version due to significant technical issues.
In response to these complaints, Capcom moved quickly by releasing a patch to fix a bug that hindered progress in chapter 5-2, as well as other issues related to Ingredient Center and Grill a Meal. The patch is scheduled for release on March 4, 2025 at 3am EST/midnight PST. Players are advised to update their game to continue playing online once the patch is released.
Monster Hunter Wilds has proven itself to be one of the most successful games in Capcom's history, with record player numbers and significant contributions to the increase in Steam users. However, challenges related to technical performance show that even highly anticipated games must face and overcome issues to meet player expectations. Capcom's quick response in releasing fixes shows their commitment to improving the gaming experience for its community.
