Tokyo Underground Killer confirmed for release in Steam on September 5 for the price of $9.99. This first-person action title was developed by Phoenix Game Productions and published by 3DM Games and Gone Shootin.
PS5 and Xbox Series versions are also planned, but have no release date yet. If you like fast-paced katana action, neon Tokyo, and a unique presentation, this is worthy of your wishlist.
Release date and price
Tokyo Underground Killer launches for PC via Steam on September 5 for $9.99. This friendly price hints at a focus on an intense solid experience, rather than a super long campaign.
For console players, the PS5 and Xbox Series versions have been confirmed, but the schedule has not yet been announced. This release strategy is often chosen by independent studios to ensure the PC version stabilizes first, before following the console.
Katana action and Blood Skills
You'll play as Kobayashi, the "Shinjuku Vampire," a famous assassin from the Gokuraku syndicate. The core of the game is high-speed sword fighting from a first-person perspective, with 10 supernatural Blood Skills that you can combine. Examples of effects include fire tornadoes to life drain.
In addition, there is a progression of unlockable abilities, as well as 10 uniquely designed bosses to test your reflexes and improvisation. The over-the-top fighting style combined with neon-soaked Tokyo inspired by real-life locations such as the rainy streets of Shinjuku to the hustle and bustle of Akihabara, creates an aggressive and stylish gameplay loop.

Comic narration and soundtrack
Another unique feature comes from the storytelling. The studio brought in nearly 100 pages of comic panels by Hans Steinbach to convey the narrative-an approach rarely seen in action FPSs. The tone of the story is called "violent, fever-dreamish" with dark humor, revenge plots, and extreme characters such as Yakuza bosses, vengeance-driven Idols, and charismatic cult leaders.
The game's audio identity is also taken seriously: the soundtrack is by Andrew Hulshult, a legendary musician synonymous with pounding rhythms and high tempos - perfect for the focus-demanding katana battles. Voice-overs are available in full in both English and Japanese, including an appearance by Hidekatsu Shibata as Ishihara, the crime boss who becomes a key figure.
Platforms and trailers
For now, the only platforms that are dated are PC via Steam. The studio said PS5 and Xbox Series versions will follow, so console players will need to be patient waiting for updates.
Alongside the release date announcement, the team released a brand new trailer (English and Japanese versions) featuring the most detailed snippets of gameplay so far: super-fast katana duels, spectacular Blood Skills executions, as well as glimpses of Kobayashi's life in Tokyo's criminal underworld. From the material shown, the visual focus on neon, rain, and high color contrast is heavily emphasized-a style that will delight fans of cyberpunk aesthetics.
All in all, Tokyo Underground Killer looks like a compact yet action-packed package: affordable price, sharp combat, strong presentation style, and a clear audio-narrative identity. If you're looking for a first-person game that emphasizes speed, skill expression, and the dark yet alluring vibe of Tokyo, September 5 could be the date to look forward to.
