Valve is rumored to be developing the latest version of the Steam Controller. According to Eurogamer, an informant named Brad Lynch said Valve is resuming development of the Steam Controller whose production has been stopped since 2019 through a project called Ibex.
Not only that, the device, which will reportedly be named Steam Controller 2, has reached the mass production stage. This means that Valve is likely to introduce it soon.
Lynch did not mention in detail how the design and specifications of the Steam Controller 2, but he said this control device will have design changes. One of the changes is in the shape of the trackpad and button configuration which is more like a gamepad than a trackpad like its predecessor.
Not only Steam Controller 2, Lynch also said that Valve is developing a new type of stick-shaped controller through a project called Roy. Just like the Steam Controller 2, this controller is said to have entered the mass production stage.
Roy is expected to be the companion controller for Valve's latest VR headset which is rumored to be called Deckard. The VR headset is said to be able to run independently like the Meta Quest 3 VR headset already on the market.
The Steam Controller was first introduced in 2015. Unfortunately, its popularity was not good because its design was very radical and was considered by gamers to be unable to function as a game controller. That's why its production was discontinued in 2019. Since then, the Steam Controller has become a rare item that only circulates in limited quantities.
