Previously, an original work with the same title had been published by Yasutaka Tsutsui in 1967, but this novel is an adaptation of the 2006 movie version.
The novel will be published by KADOKAWA and can be ordered through the Kadokawa Store. This is the first time Mamoru Hosoda has written a novel version of a movie he directed.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki o Kakeru Shōjo) is a 2006 anime film directed by Mamoru Hosoda and produced by MADHOUSE. The movie is an expansion of the classic novel of the same name by Yasutaka Tsutsui, but features a new main character named Makoto Konno.
The movie script was written by Satoko Okudera, character design by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, and music by Kiyoshi Yoshida. The main voice cast includes Riisa Naka as Makoto, Takuya Ishida as Chiaki, and Mitsutaka Itakura as Kosuke. A manga adaptation by Ranmaru Kotone was also published before the movie was released.
