Changes Behind the Scenes of One Piece Live-Action
Production for season two, which begins in summer 2024, is now reportedly complete. There have been some notable changes in the creative team, with Joe Tracz (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) joins as writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner alongside Matt Owens. Matt Owens himself has announced that he will leave the series after season 2 production ends.
The filming of season two took place in Cape Town, South Africa. To create Drum Island, a winter island, the production team had to use piles of fake snow. Joe Tracz described it as, “the location of Winterfell. Game of Thrones our version, where you have a haunted castle on top of a snowy mountain.”
The Future of the Series and Season 1 Achievements
Another confirmed piece of information is that the series will continue into season three. According to the official synopsis, season two will feature “more ferocious enemies and the most dangerous missions yet.” Co-showrunner Joe Tracz added that the scale of the adventure will be much larger. “We're going to see giants and dinosaurs. We're going to end up in the belly of a whale,” he said.
Tracz also explains that the main theme of season 2 is the test of each Straw Hat Crew member's dreams. “Each island we visit on the Grand Line will challenge one of them in a unique way, and they will learn that in order to fulfill their dreams, they have to rely on each other,” he explains.
The success of season one, which won two Emmy awards, laid a strong foundation for this bigger adventure.
