HoYoverse rarely delays major updates for its live-service games, and Zenless Zone Zero 3.2 “Their Secret Histories” is no exception. This update officially launched on September 9, 2026, introducing two S-Rank agents as well as an entirely new agent specialization: Armorer.

If you’ve been playing ZZZ for a while, you’re probably familiar with its release pattern—two new agents per version, check-in events, and free skins for players who log in regularly. All those elements are still present in 3.2. But what’s interesting isn’t so much the sheer volume of content crammed in, but rather how the Armorer specialization is trying to shift the character-building strategies that have long been established in ZZZ.

Armorer: A New Specialization That Plays Around with DEF

Until now, most DPS agents in ZZZ have been built on the same foundation: ATK as the primary stat, with CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG as secondary stats. Armorer turns that logic on its head. Claret, the first S-Rank Electric agent with this specialization, uses DEF as the base damage multiplier for all her skills.

The core mechanic revolves around Gash and Maim—Gash stacks build up on enemies, and once the stack is full, certain skills can trigger Maim for additional damage plus a Laceration DMG bonus. The part we find most unique is the multi-CRIT system: once Claret’s CRIT Rate exceeds 100%, the excess isn’t wasted—instead, it triggers multi-CRITs calculated using Laceration DMG rather than standard CRIT DMG. Furthermore, a portion of the initial CRIT DMG is converted into initial CRIT Rate. This means that for anyone looking to build Claret to her full potential, the combination of DEF, CRIT Rate, and CRIT DMG is key—not the standard ATK-CRIT formula used by most other agents.

This specialization also comes with the Counter Assist ability, which allows the Armorer agent to counter certain enemy crowd control skills. Conceptually, it sounds like HoYoverse is trying to open up a completely different build path, rather than just a reskin of an existing agent—though, of course, we won’t be able to judge how successful this is until we try it out in-game.

Roxy, the second Wind Stun agent from Flint Workshop, will be introduced in the second half of this version with the Eyes of the Storm mechanic—she can hold back EX Special Attacks to form tornadoes on the field, which can be gathered and detonated into a single giant tornado. As for reruns, Nangong Yu and Promeia will return with their respective exclusive W-Engines in the first and second halves, respectively.

Feature Story: The Conspiracy Behind the Disappearance of Porcelloy

In terms of the story, “Their Secret Histories” takes the Proxies to Vyrium, a special zone in the Shrouded Reef, to deal with the mutation of their powers. Instead of being a safe haven, the seemingly impenetrable Roscaelifer has long been infiltrated by TOPS. To make matters worse, a shipment of Porcelloy from Flint Workshop has vanished without a trace at a transfer station—prompting Claret and Roxy to drag the Proxies into the investigation.

The common thread led them to a secret research facility connected to Helios Academy, while the Administrative Director of the Airspace Patrol Department, Lindverne Sunbringer, also assigned Claret to investigate Porcelloy’s trail in the ruins of Girtablullu. This kind of setup—institutional conspiracies, unresolved past connections, and long-buried secrets beginning to surface—is actually a fairly familiar formula for ZZZ-style stories. But if the execution is as consistent as in previous versions, this could still be a strong enough reason to follow the main quest through to the end.

Freebies and Events: HoYoverse’s (Once Again) Quite Generous Standard

Producer Zhenyu announced in a handwritten letter that Proxies can get the Angels of Delusion costume set for free by participating in the Version 3.2 and 3.3 events. There are two ways to get them: by completing the check-in missions in the 14-day “Surprise Screening Plan” event, and by completing Challenge Mode in the pinball-themed “Clink, Clank, Pinball Knight!” event with Kahkiboo.

In addition, there are several other events, such as “Diary of an Orbie Parent” (a virtual pet-raising event), “Chronicles of the Hobbling Crow” (a Booastrum detective event), and “Shadow Chase Showdown” (a virtual HIA combat event), complete with Polychromes and Tuning Calibrators as rewards. Logging in during this version’s period also automatically grants a cumulative total of 10 Encrypted Master Tapes and 10 Boopons.

In terms of gameplay, Enigma of the Labyrinth: Operation Bagel, Version 3.2 falls into the category of a standard seasonal update—introducing new Z-Rank valuables, new character gear, advanced challenges, server rankings, and a reset of seasonal missions. There’s also a new and quite handy item called the “Break-Even Beacon”: if an extraction fails, Bangboo will retrieve some of the supplies first so they aren’t lost for nothing and still count toward that round’s total supply. A larger themed seasonal update—featuring a new map and system—is reportedly still in development, so it won’t be included in this 3.2 update.

For the system, the Beginner Guide now includes Jane, Hugo, and Soldier 0 – Anby for Proxies who have not yet claimed their agent selection perk in version 3.1. Koleda has also received enhancements, with the Perfect Assist mechanism optimized—the gold flash now consistently triggers a Defensive Assist, while the red flash triggers an Evasive Assist.

Preliminary Conclusions

Zenless Zone Zero 3.2 is definitely not a minor update—two new agents, a specialization that changes the way you think about builds, plus a series of events and freebies that HoYoverse typically relies on to maintain player retention. The real question isn’t about the quantity of content, but whether “Armorer”—as a new concept—truly shifts the meta in a meaningful way, or if it’s just another gimmick that looks interesting on paper but feels underwhelming in actual gameplay. We’ll only know the answer once Claret and Roxy are officially available to try on September 9.

Zenless Zone Zero 3.2 “Their Secret Histories” is available on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox PC, PC, iOS, Android, and Steam.
