Official announcements have confirmed production anime sequel to the series Gate. Titled GATE 2: Tides of Conflict, this announcement was released alongside the following visual teaser which gives an initial idea of how the story will go.
New Story Direction and GATE Premiere Visuals
Visual teaser has been unveiled alongside the project's official announcement. The accompanying information confirmed that the sequel's story will center on the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). The setting for most of the story will take place at sea, signaling a shift in focus from the previous season which featured the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) in land battles.

Franchise GATE
This anime is an adaptation of the sequel light novel series by Takumi Yanai, GATE SEASON2 Jieitai Kano Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri. An original novel series Gate itself began as an online publication on the Arcadia website between 2006 and 2009, before being commercially published by AlphaPolis in 2010.
According to data from the official website, as of June 2024, the circulation of this novel series has surpassed 7.3 million copies, including digital editions. The sequel novels were published in five volumes between 2017 and 2020, with a version of bunkoban A new five-volume set was released between 2020 and 2022.
Before the announcement of this anime sequel, GATE franchise has been adapted into other media formats. The manga adaptation illustrated by Satoru Sao began in 2011, which was then followed by three manga series spin-off in 2015.
The anime adaptation of Season 1 aired in two parts, with the first half in mid-2015 and the second half on early-2016. The anime's North American broadcast license is held by Sentai Filmworks.
