The Beginning of the Story of Osamu and Yuma

For those of you unfamiliar with the premise of the story, World Trigger centers on the threat of monsters from another dimension called Neighbors. These creatures are destroying human life on Earth and are immune to ordinary weapons. Fortunately, there is a defense organization called Border that uses alien technology to fight back.

The story focuses on Osamu Mikumo, a Border agent who may not be the best fighter, but he is willing to do anything to protect the Earth. His view of the world changes completely when he meets Yuma Kuga.

Yuma is a powerful humanoid Neighbor. The meeting between these two individuals who should be natural enemies triggers a big question: can they become friends? It is this dynamic that is at the heart of the story that has attracted many fans over the years.

About World Trigger

To understand the significance of this announcement, we need to look at the long history of the World Trigger franchise. The series was first adapted into an anime by Toei Animation and began airing in October 2014. Season 1 ran quite long with a total of 73 episodes, followed by the sequel in October 2015.

After a break of a few years, the anime returned with Season 2 in January 2021 which aired for 12 episodes. Then, Season 3 followed in October 2021 and ended in January 2022. Streaming service Crunchyroll also airs the series complete with an English dub.

The main voice cast of the previous adaptation includes Tomo Muranaka as Yuma Kuga, Yuki Kaji as Osamu Mikumo, Yuichi Nakamura as Yuichi Jin, and Nao Tamura as Chika Amatori.

This original manga by Daisuke Ashihara debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2013. The series went on hiatus in November 2016 due to Ashihara's deteriorating physical health. The manga then returned in October 2018 for five issues before finally moving to Jump SQ magazine in December 2018.

Despite several hiatuses due to the author's health, the story has continued consistently. The 29th volume was just released in Japan on December 4. Apart from manga and anime, the franchise is also very active on the theater stage. There have been five stage play adaptations held, starting from 2021 until the last performance adapting the “B-Rank Wars Final Match” arc in May this year.

We'll just have to wait until December 20th to answer all our curiosities about the future of World Trigger.
