NAMCO LEGENDARY Mountains officially announced for Switch 2, Switch, and PC via Steam. It was developed by BeXide and Bandai Namco as a 3D puzzle game that uses characters and elements from Namco's classic arcade games in voxel form.

NAMCO LEGENDARY Mountains is scheduled for release in Summer 2026. A demo of the game will also be present at BitSummit PUNCH on May 22nd to 24th at Miyako Messe, Kyoto, Japan.

NAMCO LEGENDARY Mountains Brings Namco's Arcade to Voxel Format

NAMCO LEGENDARY Mountains takes material from Namco's 1980s arcade catalog and brings it to a 3D puzzle format. Characters, enemies, items, and stage elements that were previously synonymous with pixel art are now reimagined as voxels.

NAMCO LEGENDARY Mountains not only uses the names of the old series, but also incorporates visual and sound elements from Namco's catalog into the game structure.

Game It also sets up a main stage that combines elements from several titles at once. In addition, there are dedicated stages built from each of the confirmed classics.

Gameplay Focuses on Toss, Stack, and Merge

The main loop of NAMCO LEGENDARY Mountains is built around an easy-to-understand mechanic. Players throw voxel capsules into a field, then bring two voxels of the same type together.

When two identical voxels collide, they will transform into a larger shape. From that point, the player needs to position the fall, read the remaining space, and keep the array safe within the field.

The basic goal is to keep all the voxels in the game area. If the array leaves the field, the game session will end. Therefore, space management is an important part of every experiment.

This structure also makes scoring the center of the game. The better players take care of the field and open up opportunities for the next merge, the greater the chance of recording a high score.

Arcade Lineup at NAMCO LEGENDARY Mountains

Five Namco arcade games form the main foundation of the line-up in NAMCO LEGENDARY Mountains. Each brings its own iconic characters, items or elements to the voxel format.

Some of the titles that have been confirmed to be present in this game include:

  • Pac-Man (1980)
  • Dig Dug (1982)
  • Mappy (1983)
  • Xevious (1983)
  • The Tower of Druaga (1984)

This line-up shows that NAMCO LEGENDARY Mountains does not stand on one series alone. It combines several different Namco properties and brings them together in the same puzzle system.

Announced Features of NAMCO LEGENDARY Mountains

Beyond the main gameplay, NAMCO LEGENDARY Mountains also brings some features that have been announced since the initial introduction.

Here are the details that have been announced:

  • Main Stage: The main stage incorporates elements from some of Namco's classic arcade games.
  • Dedicated Stages: Dedicated stages built from PAC-MAN, DIG DUG, MAPPY, THE TOWER OF DRUAGA, and XEVIOUS.
  • Classic Sound: Music from Namco's classic titles are used in the game.
  • Voxel Collection: Over 100 unique voxels can be unlocked through various challenges.
  • Collection Room: Voxels that have been obtained can be organized and displayed again.
  • Score Attack: A mode that focuses on achieving scores.
  • Online Rankings: Players' scores can be compared with other players around the world.

The presence of over 100 unique voxels provides additional targets beyond the main puzzle sessions. So, not only does the player's progress move through the score, but also through the growing collection.

Collection Room also provides advanced functions for the progress results. Unlocked voxels can be rearranged to form the desired look, so collections still have a role outside of the game field.
