The Viking-themed survival game, Valheim, will officially exit Early Access and launch in its full version on September 9. According to Gematsu, Coffee Stain Publishing and developer Iron Gate announced that Valheim version 1.0 will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
This full release marks an important milestone for Valheim After more than five years in Early Access. The game first launched in Early Access for PC via Steam on February 2, 2021, and later expanded to Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC via the Microsoft Store on March 14, 2023.
A Message from the Valheim Developers
Robin Eyre, creative director at Iron Gate, said that Valheim’s journey since 2021 has far exceeded the development team’s initial expectations.
“When we embarked on this journey in 2021, we could hardly have imagined the number of players who would join in, or the size of the community that would form around this game,” said Robin Eyre in a press release.
He also mentioned that approaching version 1.0 brings a mix of excitement and nervousness to the Iron Gate team.
“Getting close to version 1.0 feels both exciting and nerve-wracking because we’ve been working hard to make Deep North a fitting conclusion to the Valheim journey!” he continued.
The Deep North Is Valheim's Final Biome
The release of Valheim version 1.0 will introduce the Deep North, the game’s final biome. This region is described as an area full of ancient threats and hidden dangers.
Upon first arriving in the Deep North, players are likely to be greeted by a heavy snowstorm. Once the storm subsides, the area will reveal snow-covered mesas and expanses of frozen fields shrouded in eternal silence.
As they explore further, players will also discover vast, abandoned villages. The existence of these villages indicates that players are not the first Vikings to have set foot in these northern lands.
A New Threat in the Deep North
The Deep North is home to some of the most ancient threats players can encounter in Valheim. One of them is the Gammeltrolls—ancient trolls who migrated to the Deep North to become one with the land and transform into primordial giants who guard the northern lands.
Although its surface appears desolate and barren, the underground realm of the Deep North is teeming with dangerous life. Vikings who had previously explored this region are said to have been attacked and defeated by the Elakingar, malevolent creatures that burrow deep into the earth.
Players also need to be careful, because Elakingar is sometimes accompanied by something far more terrifying.
Valheim Is Coming to PS5 and Switch 2
Along with the official release of version 1.0, Valheim will also be available on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. These two platforms round out Valheim’s availability, which previously included PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
