Square Enix has just announced that Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth will not be getting DLC. Quoted from Eurogamer, Naoki Hamaguchi, as director Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, explained that his team prefers to focus on completing Final Fantasy VII: Part 3 as soon as possible rather than releasing additional content such as Episode Intermission at Final Fantasy VII: Remake.
"We heard that some fans wanted DLC for the Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth," Hamaguchi said. "However, we're sure that the fans are more eager to play Final Fantasy VII: Part 3. Therefore, we decided to fully focus on developing Part 3 so that it can be released as soon as possible."
Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth as the Second Part of the Trilogy
Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is the second part of the remake trilogy Final Fantasy VII. The first part, which was released in 2020, received much praise and was nominated for Game of the Year at the The Game Awards 2020.
The second part, with the title Final Fantasy VII: Rebirthwas released this year and was again nominated as Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024. This second series acts as a bridge before the remake trilogy reaches its conclusion in Part 3, whose official title and release date are still under wraps.
Speculation About the Ending
Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth also sparked discussion among fans about how the trilogy would end. Many speculated that the ending would be different from the original version of Final Fantasy VII which was released in 1997 for the PlayStation console.
In response, Hamaguchi invited fans to continue developing their theories. He revealed that his team deliberately created a storyline that provoked curiosity, leading to a lot of discussion among fans.
