The long wait for the Japanese pop culture community has finally been answered. Sozo, the organizer behind this series of events, has officially released the schedule and location for Anime Festival Asia (AFA) Indonesia 2026.

This announcement is a strong signal that one of the biggest jejepangan events in Southeast Asia is ready to return to Jakarta.

AFA Indonesia 2026 Schedule and Location

This year, the organization of the event underwent a significant change in strategy in terms of time and venue.

If in 2025 the event was held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in June, this year Anime Festival Asia Indonesia (AFAID) will certainly occupy a larger venue in the BSD City area with a slightly delayed schedule.

Here are the important details about the event schedule and location that you need to take note of:

  • Organizer: Sozo (Singapore-based event company)
  • Date: August 15 & 16, 2026
  • Location: Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), BSD City, Tangerang

The decision to use ICE BSD City again indicates that the scale of the event is likely to be more massive than the previous year.

This venue is known to have a very large exhibition area capacity and often hosts various international events.

The move from JCC to ICE BSD City provides more space to accommodate the enthusiasm of visitors who are predicted to be booming.

Update on AFA Tour Series in Asia

Indonesia is one of the main destinations in Sozo's event calendar this year. The Singapore-based event company is actively reviving their convention series in various Asian countries.

However, there were some schedule adjustments that occurred in their regional tour series this year.

One notable change is the schedule Anime Festival Asia Hong Kong (AFAHK) 2026. Originally, the event was scheduled to take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on February 14 and 15, 2026.

However, based on the latest official announcement, the event has been postponed.

Although the Hong Kong event had a schedule change, the rest of the tour went on as planned.

Anime Festival Asia Thailand (AFATH) is scheduled to return to Thailand in the middle of this year. This is a strategic move considering the event has been absent from Thailand for the past nine years.

For the AFATH edition, the event will take place at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok. The schedule has been set for May 30 and 31.

The event's return to Bangkok after almost a decade is certainly a moment fans in the region have been looking forward to.

Event Scale and AFA's Reputation in the Region

The consistency of organizing in various countries confirms the event's position as one of the largest anime and Japanese pop-culture conventions outside of Japan.

Sozo continues to strengthen their presence in the Asian entertainment industry through this annual event series, despite facing logistical challenges in some regions.

To give you an idea of the scale of events they usually handle, AFA 2024 held in Singapore recorded impressive visitor numbers.

The event attracted 130,000 visitors during its run. This figure is a measure of how large the fan base is in the Southeast Asian region.

With a confirmed schedule for AFATH and AFAID, 2026 remains a busy year for pop culture fans in the region.

The event's return to ICE BSD City in August is expected to deliver a grander experience and more diverse content than previous editions.

For those of you planning to attend AFA this year, be sure to mark the date on your calendar. Prepare yourself for a massive pop culture experience at ICE BSD City in mid-August.
