Kadokawa has just released the Trailer and Visual teaser for the anime adaptation of Matsurika Kanriden. The announcement revealed the cast, staff, and premiere schedule for the fantasy romance series.
For those of you who like stories set in the imperial palace, this latest information can be an addition to your watch list.
Matsurika Kanriden Showtime
The latest promotional video shows a glimpse of the world in this story brought to life in an animated format. The animation production for this project was handled by Maho Film studio. Anime is scheduled to air in January 2027.
Synopsis of Matsurika Kanriden
The story in Matsurika Kanriden takes inspiration from Chinese history. The main focus of the story is on Matsurika, a palace maid who is widely known for her excellent memory.
One day, she receives a request to be a training partner in a matchmaking meeting for the son of a noble family. However, the man she meets turns out to be Emperor Hakuyo in disguise.
The emperor fell in love with her at first sight. He then gave her a challenging condition. He told Matsurika to come to him only after she passed the country's civil service or scholar-official exams.

The following cast members were involved:
- Rie Takahashi as Matsurika Ko: This character is a woman who initially serves as an ordinary palace maid. She was later promoted to lady-in-waiting because she had a very sharp memory. Although she was content with her life, everything changed when she met the emperor.
- Nobunaga Shimazaki as Emperor Hakuyo: He was the emperor of Hakuo who was renowned for his good looks and skill with both pen and sword. He had a calm personality and earned the full trust of the court officials. To the few who knew his true nature, he was often dubbed as a loan shark.
About Matsurika Kanriden
Before getting an anime adaptation, the series already had a fan base through its print releases. Rinne Ishida first published this light novel in July 2017, with illustrations done by Izumi.
Kadokawa published the series under the B's-LOG Bunko label. The work continues until the 18th volume is officially released in October 2025.
The story also received a manga adaptation by Waka Takase. The manga has been serialized in Publisher Akita Shoten's Monthly Princess magazine since August 2018.
Akita Shoten has published the 12th volume of the manga in October 2025. In the same month, the first part of the manga adaptation also officially ended.
To date, the series has sold more than 2 million copies, including both print and digital editions.
