Death Stranding Isolations, an animated series set in the world of Death Stranding, now has a teaser trailer and new story details. The series is scheduled to stream exclusively on Disney+ or other Disney services in 2027.
As reported by Gematsu, Isolations will tell a completely new story, separate from that of the games. The series follows a young man and a young woman as they set out on an adventure, and is being made in a traditional, hand-drawn 2D animation style.

Synopsis
“My mom became a crater.”
The Death Stranding is a catastrophic series of explosions caused when the dead crept into our world and collided with the living. In the wake of this cataclysm, many were forced to live in absolute isolation, among them a young girl. Although this lonely existence was forced upon her, she soon came to prefer solitude. She rejects every opportunity to connect with others and lets herself be carried along by fate.
The story is set in North America immediately after Sam, the protagonist of the game, reconnects the continent by means of the Chiral Network. However, as America rises from the ashes, the newly formed connections bring about unforeseen consequences.
In this tumultuous new landscape, there are some who walk a different path from Sam and his comrades at Bridges: a wise old man who connects people through a method that defies all reckoning, a female soldier ensnared in a cycle of war and destruction, a boy who seethes with rage at the absurdity of life, and of course, the girl who chose to sever all ties with the outside world. Fate has other plans for her, however. A series of chance encounters launches her into a world she does not recognize.

The newly announced name is author Tow Ubukata, who is handling Series Composition & Screenplay. Ubukata was born in Gifu, Japan, in 1977 and made his debut in 1996 with Kuroi Kisetsu (Black Season). His work spans novels, games, comics, and animation, including Mardock Scramble which won the 24th Nihon SF Taisho Award. Meanwhile, E&H production previously worked on Ninja Kamui, Bullet/Bullet, and the TV series Magic Knight Rayearth.
Director Takayuki Sano also shared his thoughts on the project:
“One of the unique abilities of entertainment is its power to enhance the spirituality of those who consume it, and I think this is something that Mr. Kojima’s works have always achieved. As a result, I approached this production with an exceptionally strong sense of duty and responsibility. I knew that no matter what, I needed to accomplish the same thing.”
