For the Japanese market, the PS5 version will be available in both physical and digital formats. The standard physical edition is priced at 7,700 yen, while the limited edition sells for 12,100 yen. Story Centers on the Academy of Alchemy
The game takes place in Cagliostro Academy, a school for alchemists who learn how to fight the menace called Dust. The story focuses on a young alchemist who enters the academy to study, conduct research, forge relationships, and face various threats that damage the world.
The world in this game was once saved by the founder of alchemy, who brought humans from a dying world to a new land. Humans then live with the “Gods of Creation”, which are man-made gods tasked with maintaining the balance of the world.
Problems arose when Dust began to spread. This power can turn everything into dust and contaminate the gods. Gods who were previously protectors then turned into “Gods of Misfortune”. Another threat also comes through ash demons, monsters born from dust and ash.
Turn-Based Gameplay and Crest System
Gameplay The Alchemist of Ars Magna features a turn-based battle system. Battles can involve a party of up to five characters against five enemies. Players need to select appropriate skills to attack, support, recover, or strategize during the battle.
One of the important systems in this game is the contract with the gods. Players can make contracts with various gods to obtain Crest. Crests are crystals that store the power of gods and can be attached to special equipment called ether gear.
Crests provide various effects, ranging from status upgrades to additional abilities. This system makes character development feel more flexible as players can customize builds based on the power of the god being used.
In addition to battles, the game also features a synthesis system. Players can create alchemy items to help with exploration, support battles, or complete certain quests. Ether gear can also be gradually strengthened to unlock more powerful skills.
Focus on Niche JRPGs
The Alchemist of Ars Magna seems to be aimed at players who like niche JRPGs with elements of dungeon crawling, school life, alchemy, and character relationships. The academy feel gives the game a fairly lighthearted feel, although the main conflict is still related to the destruction of the world due to Dust.
For players who follow anime-style JRPGs, this PlayStation release could be a new option to try out The Alchemist of Ars Magna. However, further details such as global pricing, file size, and possible differences between versions will still need to wait for the next announcement from COSEN or Ninetail.
