Genshin Impact, the popular action RPG game from HoYoverse, will soon be ended its service for the PlayStation 4 platform. This official announcement was made by HoYoverse in early August 2025.
This decision was made due to the PS4's limited hardware performance and increasingly large application sizes, making it no longer possible to support the latest updates and content on the platform. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 5 version and other platforms such as PC, iOS, and Android will continue to run normally without interruption.
Schedule for Genshin Impact's PS4 Discontinuation of Service
The process of discontinuing Genshin Impact on PS4 will be phased in three main phases:
1. Removal from PlayStation Store (September 10, 2025)
Starting September 10, 2025, Genshin Impact for PS4 will be removed from the PlayStation Store. New users will no longer be able to download the game on PS4. However, for players who have already downloaded it, the game can still be re-downloaded through their PlayStation library.
2. Discontinuation of In-Game Purchases (February 25, 2026)
On February 25, 2026, all in-game purchases for the PS4 version will be discontinued. Players can no longer top-up or purchase items through the PlayStation Store or in-game shop. However, items purchased before this date can still be claimed until the service actually ends.
3. Service Closure and Update (April 8, 2026)
On April 8, 2026, all update support and access to Genshin Impact on PS4 will be completely discontinued. Players will no longer be able to login to the game via PS4, and there will be no more patch updates provided.
How to Migrate Genshin Impact Account from PS4
HoYoverse provides a solution for PS4 players not to lose their progress. Players are advised to bind their account to another login method, such as email or HoYoverse account. This binding process can be done through the Paimon menu > Settings > Account > User Center. Starting December 17, 2025, there will be periodic notifications in the game to remind players to bind their accounts.
Once the service on PS4 ends, purchased but unclaimed items can only be retrieved through the PlayStation 5 version. Therefore, players who wish to continue their adventure in Teyvat are advised to migrate to PS5 or other platforms such as PC and mobile.
Impact of Genshin Impact's Discontinuation of Service on PS4
The shutdown marks a new era for Genshin Impact, as developers begin to focus on higher-performance platforms. For the player community, this is an important moment to adapt and ensure that game progress remains safe. This decision also signals that live service games with major updates will begin to abandon older hardware in favor of a more optimized gaming experience.
