STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT has officially received a release date for the Japanese market. Quoted from Gematsu, a visual novel from the series Science Adventure will be released on August 20, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. This announcement is notable because the game will also support English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese subtitles, while the audio remains in Japanese.
Although a Western release date has not been officially announced, the English language support in the Japanese version opens up the possibility that global players could enjoy the game in the not too distant future from the Japanese schedule. Spike Chunsoft has previously confirmed that STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT will come to the Western region in 2026.
Reboot for the Modern Era
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is not just a port of the classic visual novel STEINS; GATE. This game comes as a new version with updated visuals, an improved user interface, and a story that gets additional original scenarios.
MAGES. said that the characters, artwork, and user interface have been remade to provide an experience more in line with modern standards. Akihabara, an important location in the story, has also been reconstructed with new details to make it feel more alive and recognizable to old and new players alike.
Character designer huke is once again involved in this project. He brings new outfit and accessory designs for the characters, while still maintaining the visual identity that has become synonymous with the series.

Time Travel Stories that Stay in Focus
Story STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT still centers on Rintaro Okabe and his group of students interested in technology. Their invention inadvertently gives them the ability to send messages to the past, which then paves the way for historical changes and conflicts across timelines.
As a visual novel, the game still relies on player choice to determine the direction of the story. Rintaro's cell phone mechanic is again an important part of the gameplay, as decisions made through the device can affect the storyline and ending.
The game has an estimated playtime of around 30 to 50 hours. This figure suggests that STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT still carries the structure of a long story with many narrative branches.
Physical and Digital Editions
Physical version STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT will be available in Japan for PS5, Switch 2, and Switch. The physical editions consist of Standard Edition, Limited Edition, and Ultra Limited Edition. The Switch 2 version is said to use a full game card.
Meanwhile, the digital version will be available for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PS4, Switch, and PC. Players can choose the Standard Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition. Some of the bonuses prepared for the special edition include art books, soundtracks, event videos, as well as other collectible items for certain physical editions.

Global Release Opportunities
What's quite interesting about this announcement is the English language support since the Japanese version. This information makes the possibility of a global release on the same date or in the near future quite plausible, although there is no official confirmation yet.
For new players, STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT could be an easier entry point to one of the most recognizable visual novels on the theme of time travel. For longtime fans, this version offers a reason to return through new visuals, neater systems, and additional scenarios that expand the story.
