SEGA and RGG Studio have officially announced Virtua Fighter Crossroads, a project previously known as Virtua Fighter New Project. Game It is scheduled for release in 2027 and will be unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2026, before further details are shared via Virtua Fighter Crossroads Showcase.
This latest series brings a fresh take on the franchise Virtua Fighter. Rather than focusing solely on traditional competitive duels, this game is designed as a narrative-driven action-adventure that blends storytelling and combat into a single experience.
The Four Protagonists and the Theme of “Crossroads”
Players will follow four different protagonists in an interconnected story. Each character has their own motivations, beliefs, and burdens from the past.
The main theme of this game is “Crossroads”, which depicts the interplay of fate, choices, and consequences faced by the characters. The decisions made—both in and out of battle—will influence alliances, relationships, and the story’s progression.
The first trailer also introduces Cielo, a new fighter who plays a key role in the game.
Vilasapara Takes Center Stage
Virtua Fighter Crossroads Set in Vilasapara, an island city known as the “City of Martial Arts.” The city consists of several districts, including a walled downtown area, an entertainment district, and a resort area.
RGG Studio describes Vilasapara as a vibrant city, bustling with activity, filled with choice-driven encounters, and brimming with hidden agendas. In addition to the main story, players can also explore side stories and quests involving the local residents.
One of the most striking aspects of this world is the rule that the use of firearms in this city is punishable by death, underscoring the importance of unarmed combat in the Vilasapara social order.
Political Conflict and a Mysterious Threat
In 20XX, Arma Carta brought an end to the era of bloodshed in Vilasapara and established a fragile balance among the criminal syndicates operating there.
The situation began to change when President Bato made Vilasapara a key part of his re-election campaign. He turned the underground tournament, the Vila Fight Fest, into a major spectacle and a symbol of the nation’s economic resurgence.
At the same time, the city is rocked by a series of attacks on martial artists by a mysterious figure known as the Bakunawa Killer. The meeting of the four main characters amid this conflict is said to bring back ghosts from the past and change Vilasapara forever.
Still Features the Signature Combat of Virtua Fighter
While emphasizing the narrative aspect, the game still retains the combat elements that are a hallmark of the series. In story mode, players will face a variety of intense combat situations, including battles against hordes of enemies and boss encounters.
SEGA has also confirmed the inclusion of a Versus mode with both local and online options. The control system retains the game’s signature streamlined and intuitive design Virtua Fighter, while enhancing the tactical depth, visual realism, and psychological tactics that have long defined the franchise.
