SEGA is releasing a free update for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. This update introduces Axel from Crazy Taxi to the game.
SEGA also announced a crossover event titled the Axel Festival. The event will begin on August 28, 2026. In addition, SEGA is offering a 60 percent discount on *Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds* on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop.
Axel and Devolada Yellow Jack Hit the Track
Players can now control Axel in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Axel drives his signature vehicle, the Devolada Yellow Jack. This vehicle is modeled after a classic yellow taxi with black-and-white accents.
This update also adds two new songs to the Jukebox:
- Axel: Character Selection
- Axel: Result
These two songs can only be listened to through the Jukebox menu in the game.
Axel Festival: Limited-Time Crossover Event
SEGA is hosting a Crazy Taxi-themed crossover event called the Axel Festival. The event runs from August 28 at 8:00 a.m. to August 31, 2026, at 7:59 a.m. (UTC+8).
Players will join one of three teams. Each team will compete to earn the most points. Each race features a different challenge. Players can earn points through Touch Boost or by completing other special objectives.
Collected Festival Points can be redeemed for exclusive items, such as:
- Special Axel-themed title
- Gadget Perfect Charge Kit
- Some vehicle decal designs
- New horn
SEGA says festival-exclusive items will be available in an upcoming update. Other ways to earn festival rewards may also be added in the future.
60 Percent Off and a Free Extreme Gear Demo
SEGA is offering a 60 percent discount on the standard edition of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. This discount is available on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop through September 9, 2026. Full details of the discount can be found at the following link: SEGA Special Sale
SEGA has also updated the free demo for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Extreme Gear Machines are now available in the demo. You can try this demo for free on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games. Players can customize their Machine, equip different Gadgets, and test them out in Grand Prix or Time Trial modes. Save data from the demo can also be transferred after purchasing the full game.
Please note that the demo update for Extreme Gear Machines is only available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games. The Nintendo Switch will not receive this demo update.
Platforms and Availability of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has been available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store since September 25, 2025.
A special edition titled *Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Nintendo Switch 2 Edition* has also been available since December 4, 2025. The content in this edition is the same as in versions for other platforms. When played on a standard Nintendo Switch console, its performance and features will be adjusted to match the Nintendo Switch version. Save data from the Nintendo Switch version can also be transferred to this Nintendo Switch 2 edition.
Players who want to purchase the Nintendo Switch 2 edition along with the Season Pass at a lower price can buy the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Digital Deluxe Edition for Nintendo Switch and then add the Upgrade Pack.
