Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Ota (Kao ni Denai Kashiwada-san to Kao ni Deru Ōta-kun), by Fuyu Azuma, is officially getting a television anime adaptation. Along with this announcement, the first visuals and trailer have also been released. Currently, a release date has not been announced, but the project is set to air this year.
A Sweet and Entertaining Story
This anime focuses on the unique relationship between Kashiwada and Oota, two middle school students who have opposite facial expressions. Kashiwada is known as a girl who almost never shows her emotions, while Oota is very expressive and always shows her feelings clearly.
Oota kept trying to surprise Kashiwada in various ways, but always failed. However, Kashiwada actually secretly enjoys seeing Oota's transparent expressions. Their unique interaction also attracts the attention of their classmates, who always observe their relationship with curiosity.
With light comedic elements and adorable character interactions, this anime presents a warm and entertaining romcom story.
Production Staff
The anime is produced by STUDIO POLON, with Tomohiro Kamitani as the director. Kamitani has previously worked on MIX Season 2 and Katana Maidens - Tomoshibi, shows his experience in handling anime with slice of life elements.
Michiko Yokote is in charge of series composition, with experience in projects such as Shirobako, Prison School, and Cowboy Bebop.
Naoto Nakamura serves as character designer and chief animation director, having previously worked on A Certain Magical Index II.
Yukari Hashimoto (Mr. Osomatsu) and Tetsuya Shitara (Matsuinu) served as music composers, presenting musical compositions that fit the nuances of the story.
The seiyuu who will voice the main characters in this anime are:

From Web Manga to Screen
The anime is adapted from a manga by Fuyu Azuma, which was first released through Niconico Seiga's Dra Sharp# in June 2018. After running for five years, the series finally concluded in June 2023 with a total of 10 volumes.
As a token of appreciation for the announcement of the anime adaptation, the creators released a special illustration to celebrate this achievement.

With a unique character concept, experienced production staff, and a story base that already has loyal fans, Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Ota has the potential to be a refreshing romcom anime.
