Publisher Happinet and developers Studio Lights released a new trailer for Mononoke No Kuni in order BitSummit PUNCH, an indie game festival that takes place from May 22 to 24, 2026 at Miyako Messe, Kyoto, Japan. Quoted from Gematsu, The game demo was playable live at the event with many significant improvements from the Tokyo Game Show 2025 demo.
Upgrade from TGS 2025 Demo
The BitSummit PUNCH demo features some major improvements over the demo shown at Tokyo Game Show 2025:
- New free camera system which gives better control to the player
- Redeveloped neighborhood with richer and more immersive details
- Incremental exploration and growth system for a deeper experience
- Mini-games with Shiba Inu dogs named Musashi who is getting more interactive
These improvements show that Studio Lights takes community feedback seriously and continues to refine their game before official release.

Mononoke No Kuni Story and World
Mononoke No Kuni following the journey Taiki and his adorable dog, Musashi, This is a story about a dog, a dog in a yokai world inspired by Japanese folklore. Their goal is to rescue the dog who has passed away in the human world and must now fight to survive as a divine being.
This game combines satisfying parry-based combat, various mini-games, and encounters with various unique mononokes such as Nekomata (cat spirit), Gama (frog), Komi (fox), and Mujina (tanuki). Each mononoke has their own sorrows, memories, and reasons why they got lost in this world.
Painting Style Visuals and Combat System
One of the main attractions Mononoke No Kuni is painting-style art style which is mesmerizing. Each region in Mononoke Realm comes with a different landscape and atmosphere, creating an experience that feels alien yet mesmerizing to the player.
This game's combat system uses parry system which allows players to deflect enemy attacks and even bounce projectiles back at them. Players can also choose how to strengthen the main character with new abilities for a variety of different play styles.
Release and Playtest Schedule
Mononoke No Kuni scheduled for release for PC via Steam in the fall of 2026. The playtest is now available for players to try out before the official release. Attendance at BitSummit PUNCH is an opportunity for event-goers to try out the latest version of the game.
