Warhorse Studios, the developer behind the Kingdom Come: Deliverance, announced two major projects that are in development. Quoted from Gematsu, the Czech Republic-based studio is working on a open-world RPG set in Middle-earth and “adventure" at the same time Kingdom Come new.” Further details are yet to be revealed by the studio.

Open-World RPG in the World of Middle-earth

The first project was an open-world RPG set in the Middle-earth, a fictional world created by J.R.R. Tolkien that is known through The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. This is a big step for Warhorse Studios, which has been known for its highly realistic historical simulation approach in the series. Kingdom Come.

There is no information yet on the target platform, release date, or whether the project is an official license of Tolkien's estate. Warhorse Studios has only stated that it will share more details “when the time is right.” The world of Middle-earth itself has been the setting for various games from different developers, including the series Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor from Monolith Productions.

A New Kingdom Come Adventure

In addition to the Middle-earth project, Warhorse Studios also confirmed it is working on new entry in the series Kingdom Come. The series is known for its highly detailed and realistic RPG gameplay, set in medieval Bohemia with an immersive life simulation system.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II which was released in February 2025 to very positive reviews from players and critics. This follow-up project will likely continue or expand on the world already established in the previous two games, though it's unclear whether this will be a direct sequel or a spin-off.

Two Ambitious Projects at Once

Working on two major projects simultaneously is an ambitious move for Warhorse Studios. It shows that the studio has grown significantly since releasing Kingdom Come: Deliverance first in 2018.

“We're excited to share more when the time is right,” reads an official statement from Warhorse Studios. The gaming community is now eagerly awaiting further announcements on both projects, especially details on the Middle-earth project which sounds very ambitious from a studio known for its realistic approach.

Warhorse Studios built their reputation through Kingdom Come: Deliverance released in 2018 - a highly detailed open-world RPG set in 15th century Bohemia. The game's success allowed them to develop a sequel and now take on more ambitious projects such as an adaptation of the world of Middle-earth.
