About Pokemon Mezastar

Pokemon Mezastar is a modern arcade game developed by Takara Tomy A.R.T.S., a longtime Nintendo partner. The game was first released in September 2020, after being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mezastar is housed in a large arcade machine equipped with a big screen, physical controls, and tag dispensers.

These large 'plastic' tags are at the center of the gameplay, where players capture Pokemon after a battle and can reuse the tag in the next game session by placing the tag on one of its game paths. Fun right?

Almost four years after its first debut, Pokémon Mezastar is finally ready for global expansion. This news comes on the heels of Nintendo's filing of the trademark "Pokémon MEZASTAR & Painting" in Indonesia in July 2024.

"Lukisan" is intentionally written in Indonesian and Malay meaning "picture", where there is speculation that it may indicate a new version or rebranding of Pokemon Mezastar.

The trademark name application is still awaiting approval from Indonesia's Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP), but is expected to be approved before the end of 2024.

Over the years, Pokemon Mezastar has collaborated with several major brands, including McDonald's Japan in June 2021. This collaboration resulted in a series of McDonald's tags that can only be obtained through the purchase of Happy Meals.

Nintendo Ready to Compete

Although Mezastar is among the newest Pokemon arcade games in the gaming industry, Nintendo recently announced a new arcade game called Pokemon Frienda scheduled for release in Japan in the second half of July 2024.

The game will offer 3v3 battles and is planned to launch in selected arcades and shopping centers in Japan in the second half of July 2024. With the launch of Pokemon Frienda, Nintendo is showing their seriousness in competing in the global arcade game market.
