Nintendo has officially released a seven-minute overview trailer for Star Fox Switch 2, a reimagined version of Star Fox 64. This latest trailer provides a clearer picture of the game’s visual upgrades, game modes, multiplayer features, and release date.
According to information shared by Nintendo via Gematsu, Star Fox for the Switch 2 is scheduled for release on June 25, 2026. The game brings back the adventures of Fox McCloud and the Star Fox crew in a major conflict in the Lylat System, now with a completely revamped look.
Star Fox Switch 2 Trailer Overview Showcases New Visuals and Gameplay Modes
Trailer Overview Star Fox features a number of classic stages that have now been given a complete visual overhaul. Nintendo also highlights the various playable modes, for both single-player and multiplayer.
In the story, the Lylat System is in chaos after coming under sudden attack from an evil scientist named Andross. The galaxy’s last hope lies with the Star Fox Mercenary Squad, a team consisting of:
- Fox McCloud as a young leader
- Falco Lombardi as the lead pilot
- Slippy Toad as a genius engineer
- Peppy Hare as a veteran pilot
These four iconic characters are once again at the center of the adventure as they strive to stop the threat posed by Andross.
Campaign Mode Features Branching Paths and Co-op
One of the main highlights of this latest trailer is Campaign Mode. In this mode, players explore the Lylat System, take on various dangerous missions, and discover branching paths to uncover the full story.
Campaign Mode also supports multiplayer gameplay. Players can play online via GameShare or use local co-op. In co-op mode, the two players take on different roles: one as the Pilot and the other as the Gunner.
Nintendo has also confirmed support for Mouse-Controlled Targeting using the second Joy-Con. This feature is designed to provide a more intuitive aiming experience, especially when facing enemies in intense aerial combat.
In addition to Campaign Mode, Star Fox also features Challenge Mode. This mode offers new challenges and a variety of additional objectives that players can complete as they replay stages they’ve already cleared in the campaign.
Battle Mode Offers 4v4 Online Air Combat

For players looking for a competitive experience, Battle Mode is one of the most exciting modes. This mode features four-on-four online aerial battles, either with friends or random players.
Battle Mode will take place across three different stages. Interestingly, even if only one player owns the Star Fox game, up to four players can still play Battle Mode locally via GameShare. This mode can also be played online using GameShare through GameChat.
Nintendo has also added a unique feature that supports compatible USB cameras. With this feature, players can appear in GameChat as Fox McCloud or other members of the Star Fox crew using interactive avatars. These avatars can mirror the player’s facial expressions and movements in real time.
Nintendo Music Adds 10 Star Fox Tracks
Along with the release of this overview trailer, Nintendo has also added 10 tracks from Star Fox to the Nintendo Music service. All songs available on Nintendo Music can now be enjoyed on a variety of devices, including tablets, computers, and even cars via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Nintendo Music also features a new feature called My Mix. This feature automatically creates playlists based on a user’s play history, allowing players to enjoy the music from their favorite games outside of the console in a more personalized way.
With updated visuals, a branching campaign mode, co-op support, online 4v4 Battle Mode, and GameShare and GameChat integration, Star Fox looks set to be one of the key titles for the Switch 2. Star Fox is scheduled for release on the Switch 2 on June 25, 2026. Stay tuned for more exciting news!
