NIS America announced that The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero and The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 in fall 2026. Quoted from Gematsu, Falcom's two games will be available digitally as separate releases, while the physical version will be sold as a collection containing both titles.

This announcement is quite significant for JRPG fans, especially since both games are major parts of the Crossbell arc in The Legend of Heroes series: Trails. This arc is known as one of the parts of the story that plays a big role in establishing political conflicts, characters, and relationships between regions in the world of Trails.

New Version Comes with Technical Improvements

The PS5 and Switch 2 versions of Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure will bring a number of technical improvements. NIS America mentions support for resolutions up to 4K, performance up to 120 FPS, and the option to use original or enhanced textures.

The High-Speed Mode feature also remains an important part of the gaming experience. This feature allows players to speed up exploration and combat, making the pace of the game more comfortable. The Trails series is known for its long dialog, dense world, and many story details. Because of this, features like this can help players who want to enjoy the story without being in the traversal or battle routine for too long.

For Nintendo Switch 2, both games will also support mouse input. There is no detailed explanation about the use of this feature, but its presence could provide additional control options for players.

Crossbell Arc Returns to the Modern Platform

Trails from Zero is the beginning of Lloyd Bannings' story after he returns to Crossbell and joins the Special Support Section. Together with Elie MacDowell, Randy Orlando, and Tio Plato, Lloyd takes on various cases that slowly reveal the complicated side of the city.

Meanwhile, Trails to Azure continues the story a few months after the events of Trails from Zero. The game takes the Crossbell conflict to a bigger stage, including pressure from the Erebonian Empire and the Republic of Calvard. The story also introduces additional gameplay features such as Burst, Back Attack, as well as customizable cars.

Save Data and Story Relationships

One important detail is support for importing save data from Trails from Zero to Trails to Azure. This feature can unlock additional conversations and dialog variations, making the story experience more personalized for players who complete the first game.

This suits the style of the Trails series, which relies heavily on story continuity. Many small details from one game can provide additional context to the next. For new players, the order of play is still something to keep in mind to make the storyline easier to understand.

This Release is Essential for JRPG Fans

The arrival of Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure on PS5 and Switch 2 makes the Crossbell arc more accessible on next-gen platforms. While there's no exact release date and official pricing, this early information already suggests that the new version will focus on improving performance, visuals, and play comfort.

For players who have never touched the Crossbell arc, this release could be an opportunity to get acquainted with one of the key pieces in the Trails series. For longtime fans, this version may be more appealing due to the more stable performance, higher resolution, and physical collection options in one package.
