Ubisoft has just announced that the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows has been postponed. The announcement was made through Ubisoft's X social media accounts recently.
In the announcement, Ubisoft said that the release schedule of Assassin's Creed Shadows was postponed to February 14, 2025. Previously, Assassin's Creed Shadows was scheduled to be released on November 14, 2024.
Prior to this announcement, Ubisoft also announced the cancellation of its participation at Tokyo Game Show 2024.
Allegedly Too Controversial
Ubisoft did not mention in detail the reason why they delayed the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows. But many people say the delay is due to Assassin's Creed Shadows which has a lot of controversy and is considered to have desecrated Japanese history.
One of the latest controversies is the promotion of the latest Assassin's Creed Shadows action figure that shows the two main characters in the game posing in front of the Tori Gate or temple gate in Japan. The problem is that the Tori Gate shown in the action figure is only half shown.
Japanese gamers likened the Tori Gate design to the real-life version in Nagasaki, which turned out to be a monument to the city's destruction by an atomic bomb dropped during World War II.
Starting from the Controversy of the Main Character
The Assassin's Creed Shadows controversy actually started when Ubisoft announced that Yasuke would be the main character of the game. Yasuke is said to be the first original historical figure to be used as the main character in the Assassin's Creed series.
The problem is, Yasuke's status as a legendary Samurai is actually still questionable. This is due to the lack of historical records about Yasuke himself. Even one user on X said Yasuke was only mentioned in one paragraph in an ancient Japanese historical record.

Moreover, Ubisoft apparently used a book written by Thomas Lockley, which was later found out that almost all of its contents were speculation, not based on historical evidence. This made gamers, especially the Japanese gamers community, very disappointed with Ubisoft for lowering its standards for Assassin's Creed games that previously emphasized the detailed relationship between the story and real history.
Has a Tough Rival
The postponement of Assassin's Creed Shadows' release schedule to February 2025 means it will be in direct competition with Ghost of Yotei, which was also recently announced at the PlayStation State of Play event. Unlike Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ghost of Yotei has received positive feedback from gamers.
