Kyoto Animation has provided a significant update to its novel adaptation project. 20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku. Anime This highly anticipated movie will be released globally under the title Sparks of Tomorrow and is scheduled to premiere in 2026.
Official Announcement and Showtimes
This latest information was officially announced at the KyoAni no Sekai-ten. Kyoto Animation confirmed that this adaptation project will be produced as a television anime series. The title registered in Japan is 20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku Eureka Evrika, while Sparks of Tomorrow will be used as the international title.
Along with this announcement, the studio also released key visuals and the first trailer introducing the world and main characters. The release date of 2026 gives an indication of the period of production that the studio will undergo.

Sparks of Tomorrow First Trailer and Backstory
Sparks of Tomorrow takes viewers to Kyoto in the early 20th century, in an alternate history where steam engine technology has flourished, blanketing the city in thick smoke. The released trailer gives an early glimpse of this unique world.
In the midst of this world, the story centers on two main characters. The first is Kihachi Sakamoto, a boy who lives in deep suspicion after losing his brother - a figure with whom he dreams of the "Age of Electricity". The second is Inako Momokawa, a girl who lives an obedient life while hiding dreams of the future as well as regrets for her late mother in her heart.
Fate brings them together in search of the secrets of the "20th Century Electricity Catalog", a book that describes their dreams. This story is about "regeneration", a call to go beyond their present selves and break through the dreams they once had.

About Sparks of Tomorrow Original Novel
The anime Sparks of Tomorrow is adapted from a novel written by Hiro Yūki and illustrated by Kazumi Ikeda. The novel is an award-winning honorable mention at the 8th Kyoto Animation Awards in 2017, and was the only work to receive an award that year.
The novel was officially published under Kyoto Animation's KA Esuma Bunko label in August 2018. The initial announcement for the anime adaptation itself dates back to July 2018.
With strong source material and a solid production team, Sparks of Tomorrow is one title to look forward to in 2026.
