Godzilla returns to the big screen through Godzilla -0.0 (read: Godzilla Minus Zero). The new movie is a follow-up to Godzilla Minus One, with the initial announcement immediately revealing the timeline, schedule, and core team returning to handle the movie.
For now, story and cast details have yet to be announced, but the initial direction of the movie is already starting to emerge.
Story And Trailer
TOHO has released the first teaser for Godzilla Minus Zero. The teaser confirms that the movie is set in 1949. That means the story takes place two years after the events in Godzilla Minus One.
This time setting is the main information from the first teaser. Since the official synopsis has yet to be revealed, the year 1949 is the clearest marker of the movie's position in the story's timeline.
TOHO has also not announced the cast list or character details. The company only stated that the story, cast, and other additional information will be announced later.
After the teaser was announced, GKIDS also shared a message from Takashi Yamazaki. This information appeared alongside the initial announcement of the movie.

Godzilla Minus Zero Showtime
TOHO set November 3, 2026 as the air date for Godzilla Minus Zero in Japan. In North America, the movie will be released on November 6, 2026 by GKIDS and TOHO.
This moment marks the first time that a Japanese-produced Godzilla film series has been shown in Japan and North America in the same week. This detail marks a closer distribution pattern between the domestic and international markets.
TOHO and GKIDS also mentioned that additional international release dates will be announced later. So, schedules for other regions outside of Japan and North America are still pending the next update.
November 3 also has a special significance in the history of the franchise. It is known as Godzilla Day, as it coincides with the release date of the first Godzilla movie on November 3, 1954.
The same date pattern is also used when Godzilla Minus One hits Japan on November 3, 2023.

Production Staff
Takashi Yamazaki returns to handle this new movie in three main positions. He returns as director, screenwriter, and VFX supervisor.
TOHO also confirmed that production is currently underway at TOHO Studios.

In the United States, his income is estimated at US$57,144,669. Based on data Box Office Mojo, The film was also listed as one of the non-English films with the largest box office results in that market. In the same announcement, it was named the third highest-grossing foreign-language film in the United States as of 2024.
Apart from the box office, Godzilla Minus One also brought a big achievement on the awards trail. The movie won Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards in March 2024.
This result makes it the first Japanese film to win in the category. It also became the first Godzilla movie to be nominated for an Oscar.
