Happinet and Wit One Studio have announced a new adventure game titled Lost Museum: Echoes of the Chromageists. Rika Suzuki wrote the script for this game. Suzuki previously wrote the screenplay Another Code and Hotel Dusk: Room 215.

Vince and the Chromageists

Chromageists are creatures born from paintings. They carry the thoughts, emotions, and memories of their original paintings. Each Chromageist has a unique face. But behind that face, they have lost some of their memories.

The story centers on Vince, a human boy. Vince finds himself lost in a place called the Lost Museum. Inside the museum, he discovers a magic pen. This pen helps him connect with the emotions and memories of the lost Chromageists.

Vince was accompanied by Novi, the first Chromageist he had ever met. Novi’s face was made of shimmering light. Novi was small and often floated. Novi and Vince grew closer throughout their journey.

The Chromageist designs are inspired by famous paintings. Some examples include *Sunflowers*, *Mona Lisa*, and *The Great Wave off Kanagawa*.

The Lost Museum and the Real World

The Lost Museum is located within “Lost Space,” a dimension separate from the real world. This space serves as a gathering place for famous paintings. As a result, the Lost Museum is also home to the Chromageists, who were born from those paintings.

On the other hand, the real world in this game is depicted differently. Art is becoming increasingly rare in everyday life. Many people are missing out on the opportunity to experience art. The knowledge behind it is also being forgotten.

Investigative Gameplay Inside a Museum

Players explore the Lost Museum using a point-and-click system. Players examine the paintings and furnishings inside the museum. Players can also talk to the Chromageists. These conversations yield clues that lead to their lost memories.

The collected data was then processed through the following three core mechanisms:

  • Search — Players look for clues in paintings, furniture, and conversations with Chromageist.
  • Chromageist Appraisal — Players piece together the clues they’ve gathered to unravel the meaning behind the lost memories.
  • Memory Restoration — Players use their deductive skills to restore Chromageist’s memory and uncover his repressed emotions.
