Nitrome has officially announced Bad Ice-Cream Resort for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. The game is an all-new standalone sequel in the Bad Ice-Cream arcade puzzle series, which was once popular as a browser game.

This announcement comes shortly after the announcement of Bad Ice-Cream Triple Scoop, a remaster of the original trilogy. As reported by Gematsu, the release date for Bad Ice-Cream Resort has not been announced yet, while a Kickstarter campaign for the game will open soon.

A sequel to a legendary browser game

The original Bad Ice-Cream trilogy was played more than 100 million times in the Flash era. Many players know it from browser game portals such as Miniclip and Friv, or 4399 and 7K7K in Asia.

Bad Ice-Cream Resort is built from scratch with hand-drawn HD art. The developer calls the game a love letter to after-school gaming sessions, while keeping its classic arcade gameplay.

A chaotic vacation in Sunshine Cove

The story is set in Sunshine Cove, a tropical island famous for its white sand, wildlife, and traditional fruit-flavored gelato. The island is now packed with entertainment for tourists, from inflatable rides and volleyball with explosives to a weekly barbecue party on a volcano.

Trouble starts when soft-serve ice cream arrives on the island. Sunshine Cove turns out to be the turf of the Gelato Family, an old-school crime syndicate that doesn’t like imitation ingredients. Anyone who brings soft-serve onto their island is in for a trip to the freezer.

Meet the Soft-Serve Syndicate

The ice creams, which used to differ only in color, now each have their own personality. Here are the four core members of the Soft-Serve Syndicate:

  • Vanilla: the gang’s leader, with a gold tooth and an eyepatch
  • Sorbet: a short-tempered femme fatale who likes to stomp on opponents with her high heels
  • Chocolate: the most stubborn member, who prefers to let a headbutt do the talking
  • Strawberry: a hyperactive member who loves nothing more than smashing ice blocks as fast as possible

Campaign and Battle Mode for four players

You can explore the vast Campaign Map solo or with up to four players in local co-op. The campaign has branching paths, giant bosses, and a variety of bite-sized challenges. The number of enemies and the map layouts also adjust to the number of players.

  • Toppings as weapons, such as candy hammers, and Additives as permanent stat boosts
  • Boss battles against the island’s wildlife and the Gelato Family’s mob bosses
  • Story secrets, missing flavors, and unlockable B-side layouts
  • 60 FPS gameplay and full controller support
