CD Projekt Red has just announced Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is coming to MacOS early 2025. The game will be almost 5 years old when it comes to MacBook users and other Apple computer products based on MacOS and will be available through the Apple App Store, GoG, Epic Games, and Steam.

In an official statement, CD Projekt Red said Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate: Edition will come with special optimizations for Apple Silicon and bring features like path tracing, frame generation, and built-in Spatial Audio. Not only that, this is their first game coming to MacOS.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is a complete edition that brings the base game along with the Phantom Liberty expansion. So, MacOS users will get the most complete version of the game.

The arrival of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is a signal that Apple doesn't seem to have given up on getting gamers to play games on MacOS. However, many people are pessimistic about Apple's efforts to gain the sympathy of gamers.

This is not without reason. The latest data from Steam Hardware Survey said that MacOS only holds a share of 1.39% of all Steam users. This is far below Windows, which is still the main gaming platform with a share of 96,61%.

Steam Hardware Survey's most popular operating system data shows MacOS users far outnumber Windows users

So, the arrival of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is indeed a breath of fresh air for the handful of gamers who stubbornly still use MacOS to play games. But the presence of this game does not mean that gaming will be dominated by Apple in the near future.

Remember, there are hundreds of Windows-based gaming laptops and PCs that have been able to play Cyberpunk 2077 to its full potential for four years now.
