Though I Am an Inept Villainess Story and Trailer
Though I Am an Inept Villainess comes from a light novel by Satsuki Nakamura. For the English release, Seven Seas published this novel and manga series with the full title Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Tale of the Butterfly-Rat Body Swap in the Maiden Court.
The series is set in a kingdom inspired by historical China. Five clans send their girls to become imperial consorts. From that group, only one will be chosen to be the empress.
The main character is Kou Reirin. She is known as a fragile and beautiful girl, and is nicknamed “butterfly” in the palace. Reirin is also seen as having a great chance of becoming the crown prince's spouse.
The situation changes when Shu Keigetsu, nicknamed “court rat”, attacks her during the Lantern Festival. After that incident, Reirin wakes up in a dungeon.
It is at this point that the main conflict begins to move. Reirin's body has been swapped with the person who attacked her. From there, the story progresses through body swaps, changes in social position, and jockeying for place within the palace.
Reirin's new condition gives the story a strong irony. While others see her situation as a disaster, Reirin is now in a stronger body. It makes the threats that come her way change shape, but it doesn't stop her.
