Story and Trailer
Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon anime tells the story of Light, an adventurer who is betrayed by his trusted party mates. After being abandoned in the Abyss-the most dangerous dungeon in the world-Light almost loses his life. In a state of desperation, he activates his only skill, Unlimited Gacha. Originally only producing useless items, this skill this time actually summoned Mei, a level 9999 fighter in a maid costume who was immediately loyal to her.
Three years later, Light built up great power in the dungeon. He summoned more level 9999 fighters and became a feared Overlord. With an army at his side, he is ready to rise to the surface to take revenge on the comrades who betrayed him.
Bandai Namco Filmworks has released an initial visual teaser and promotional video. While a full trailer is not yet available, the footage already depicts the dark atmosphere, intensity of the story, and potential power of the main characters.

Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon anime adapted from the light novel with full title Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon: My Trusted Companions Tried to Kill Me, But Thanks to the Gift of an Unlimited Gacha I Got LVL 9999 Friends and Am Out For Revenge on My Former Party Members (Shinjiteita Nakama-tachi ni Dungeon Okuchi de Korosarekaketa ga Gift "Mugen Gacha" de Level 9999 no Nakama-tachi o Te ni Irete Moto Party Member to Sekai ni Fukushuu & "Zamaa!" Shimasu!), written by Shisui Meikyou. The story was first serialized online on the site Shōsetsuka ni Narō in April 2020.
The print version is published by Hobby Japan from May 2021 with illustrations by tef. The 12th volume of the light novel is scheduled to be released on Friday.
The manga adaptation of this story was launched by Takashi Ohmae through the website Magazine Pocket owned by Kodansha in May 2021. The 16th volume of the manga will be released on May 9, 2025. For the international market, the light novel has been licensed by J-Novel Club, and the manga version is published in English by Seven Seas.
