For those of you who are interested in the behind-the-scenes process of making video games, the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto has just announced an exhibition that is not to be missed.

Art Gallery has been unveiled, giving us a chance to see how these iconic characters look before they appear on-screen.

New Art Gallery at the Nintendo Museum

On September 3, the Nintendo Museum officially announced the addition of Art Gallery on the second floor of Exhibition Building 1. According to an official statement, "Visitors can explore a wide variety of game artworks, including character illustrations and concept art.”

The exhibition will feature original character artworks and selected developmental materials from a wide range of franchise famous. Some of the titles that have been confirmed to be part of the exhibition are Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Animal Crossing.

Photo preview released shows some color artwork from the original game The Legend of Zelda for the Famicom/NES, which indicates that the material on display includes illustrations from the classic to the modern era.

Exhibition in Nintendo History

The museum, which opened in October 2024, aims to "share the history and philosophy of product development with the public." Addition Art Gallery It reinforces that mission by providing a deep insight into the artistic side of the company's creative process.

Given that the company has a vast visual archive from decades of history, it is likely that the artworks displayed in the gallery will be rotated regularly.

This can coincide with the release of a new game in a franchise or to celebrate the anniversary of certain titles, thus giving visitors a reason to come back.
