Microsoft and ASUS Retrieved will showcase the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, two new Windows 11-based gaming handhelds at Gamescom 2025. This is the first time the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will be shown to the public after being announced in June.

ROG Xbox Ally: Xbox Experience in the palm of your hand
The ROG Xbox Ally runs Windows 11 which has been specially optimized, so when it is powered on, users are immediately greeted with the Xbox full screen experience interface. This interface resembles an Xbox console and supports full navigation with the controller, making the transition from console to handheld seamless. Users can access games from Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net, Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and other PC gaming clients, as well as apps like Discord and Twitch.
Exclusive ROG Xbox Ally features include dedicated buttons for the Game Bar, Xbox Wireless Controller-inspired ergonomic grip, Gaming Copilot integration, and access to the Armoury Crate for performance tuning. Accessibility features from Xbox and Windows are also fully adopted, ensuring the device is friendly to all gamers.
There are two variants: ROG Xbox Ally (white, AMD Ryzen Z2 A, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) and ROG Xbox Ally X (black, AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD). Both have a 7-inch FHD 120Hz display, large battery, and comfortable grip design. Full support for PC Game Pass, cloud gaming, and remote play from Xbox Series X|S makes these devices extremely versatile.
Microsoft is also developing special labels to mark games that are optimized for handhelds, and at launch, Hollow Knight: Silksong will be one of the main titles that can be directly played on ROG Xbox Ally.
Microsoft at Gamescom 2025
At Gamescom 2025, Microsoft is presenting more than 20 games from in-house studios and global partners at the Xbox booth, with more than 120 gaming stations. Visitors can experience featured games such as Age of Empires, Age of Mythology: Retold, Grounded 2, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, NINJA GAIDEN 4, and exclusive presentations The Outer Worlds 2.
The Xbox booth also featured demos of popular third-party games such as Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Final Fantasy XVI, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, PowerWash Simulator 2, Super Meat Boy 3D, and more. In addition, Blizzard introduced a new expansion World of Warcraft: Midnight with Housing features, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 which was revealed live on Opening Night Live.
Microsoft also introduced the Xbox Digital Passport Quest, an interactive in-booth activity with great prizes, and emphasized its commitment to accessibility with a wheelchair-friendly area, Xbox Adaptive Controllers, and a height-adjustable demo station. Live broadcasts from the Xbox booth will be available in multiple languages, so gamers around the world can keep up with the latest developments.
