SEGA announced that global cumulative sales of the action-adventure game Sonic Frontiers have surpassed 5 million units as of August 14, 2026. This figure includes both physical and digital copies across all platforms where the game is available, namely PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Steam.
Adventures on the Starfall Islands
In Sonic Frontiers, players explore a vast archipelago called the Starfall Islands through high-speed, open-world action gameplay. The main story centers on mysterious ruins left behind by an ancient civilization slumbering on the archipelago, complete with a variety of new enemies that present fresh challenges for the Sonic franchise.
Since its release, the game has won a number of awards, including the 2023 Japan Game Awards Excellence Award and the 2023 PlayStation Partner Awards (Japan/Asia). SEGA also continues to update Sonic Frontiers’ content through free updates and DLC, while expanding its player base through periodic digital sales, price adjustments, and the addition of new platforms.
Discounts of up to 70% in the August 2026 SEGA Publisher Sale
Right now, a digital sale for Sonic Frontiers and various other Sonic titles is underway on the PlayStation Store, the Nintendo eShop, and Steam.
In the August 2026 SEGA Publisher Sale, Sonic Frontiers is discounted by up to 65%, SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS is discounted by up to 70%, and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is discounted by up to 60%.
SEGA reminds players to make sure the discount is active on each digital platform before making a purchase.
Sonic Adventure 2 Commemorative Shoes
To celebrate reaching 5 million units sold, SEGA is also offering a commemorative item—the Sonic Adventure 2 Shoes—available for free for a limited time in select regions, from August 14, 2026, at 12:00 a.m. to February 13, 2027, at 11:59 p.m. (UTC+8).
Sonic Frontiers – Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch 2
The digital version of Sonic Frontiers – Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 is now available, while the physical version will be released on September 17, 2026.
This edition combines three previously released free content updates, plus a new mode, costumes, and additional story content featuring Amy, Knuckles, and Tails as playable characters. It also includes a number of in-game items and Digital Deluxe bonuses such as a Digital Art Book and a Mini Soundtrack.
