Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Firesprite officially announced Until Dawn 2 for PlayStation 5. This horror game is scheduled for release on 2027 and is a direct sequel to Until Dawn which first arrived on PS4 in 2015.
Premise: Ghost Hunters on a Remote Island
Until Dawn 2 following a group of ghost hunters ambitious people chasing viral content on a remote island. The island is shrouded in a woman's tale of demons and terrifying supernatural phenomena. When the story begins to manifest in real life, the group must fight their own fears, and whatever else stands in their way, to make it off the island alive.
Like the first game, Until Dawn 2 puts the player as the decision maker. Every choice you make determines who survives and who doesn't. The official tagline reads: “Ready to die for likes?” a satire on the viral content culture that is the backdrop of the story.
Firesprite: The Developer Behind the Sequel
Firesprite is a studio that previously worked on The Persistence and Horizon Call of the Mountain for PlayStation VR2. Their appointment as developer Until Dawn 2 shows Sony's confidence in the studio's ability to work on narrative-based horror games.
Until Dawn The original was developed by Supermassive Games, so the change of developer to Firesprite has been one of the most talked about things since this announcement. But Sony seems confident that Firesprite will be able to retain the essence of choice-and-consequence gameplay that characterizes the franchise.
