Netflix finally confirmed the broadcast schedule for the anime movie Cosmic Princess Kaguya!. After capturing the public's attention with its initial announcement, the streaming platform has now released full details including the global release date, second trailer, and voice cast.

It was one of the most anticipated titles as it marked the feature-length film directing debut of Shingo Yamashita. He is widely known for his distinctive visual style in the industry. anime.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on January 22, 2026. The release of this information complements the enthusiasm that has been building since the previous special trailer was released. The video garnered more than 15 million views and topped YouTube trending in Japan.

Along with the release date, a new teaser visual and a second trailer were also unveiled. The new promotional video features the theme song “Shunkan Symphony” performed by 40mP.

The movie is based on the premise of Tsukuyomi, a virtual realm where hopes and dreams converge. The story focuses on Iroha Sakayori, a 17-year-old high school student in Tokyo who is busy balancing school life and a part-time job.

Iroha found escape by watching a popular streamer named Yachiyo Runami, the administrator of the Tsukuyomi virtual space. Iroha frequently visits the virtual world to support Yachiyo and play games for extra income.

The story moves on when Iroha finds a telephone pole that glows with beautiful colors on her way home. From the pole, a baby appears who grows very quickly into a girl her age. The girl, who is later named Kaguya, has a personality that is quite spoiled.

At Kaguya's request, Iroha helped her become a streamer on Tsukuyomi. With Iroha as a producer and songwriter, and Kaguya as a singer, their relationship grows closer. However, evil forces lurk to take Kaguya back to the moon, presenting Princess Kaguya's story in a different interpretation.

About Cosmic Princess Kaguya!

This movie marks the feature-length directorial debut of Shingo Yamashita. Previously, Yamashita has built a strong reputation through his direction of the opening sequences for popular anime such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and Urusei Yatsura (2022).

The movie's visual approach separates the character designers for two different worlds. Hechima handled Tsukuyomi's virtual world avatar design, while Akihiro Nagae handled the real world character design.

The story expansion of Cosmic Princess Kaguya! is also expanding to other media as part of a multimedia project. The manga adaptation by Taro Yoneda will debut with the first two chapters in Comptiq (Kadokawa) magazine on January 9.

In addition, a novel written by Naruto Kiriyama with illustrations by Asao Urata is scheduled for release on January 30, with direct supervision from Yamashita. This series of releases complements the movie's launch on Netflix.
