Fable officially postponed from the fall 2026 release schedule to February 2027. This announcement was made directly by Mat Booty, Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President of Xbox, in Official Xbox Podcast.
Reason for Delay
Mat Booty explained that the decision to delay was not due to quality issues. “The game is in great shape... we wanted to make sure it got its own release window, so we moved it from this fall 2026 to February,” Booty said in the podcast.
This statement indicates that Xbox wants to give a wider space to Fable so as not to compete with other big titles scheduled for release in Fall 2026.
Appearance at Xbox Games Showcase 2026
Booty also confirmed that Fable will appear in Xbox Games Showcase 2026. This means players will soon get more information and possibly new gameplay of this long-awaited game.
Xbox Games Showcase 2026 is an important moment for Microsoft to show the current state of the Fable to the public before its release early next year.
Platform and Availability
Fable will be available on multiple platforms, including:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- PC - via Steam and Microsoft Store
- Game Pass - available from day one of release
Attendance Fable on PS5 is part of Xbox's increasingly open strategy of releasing first-party titles to other platforms.
Development Context
Fable developed by Playground Games, a studio known for its Forza Horizon. This game is a reboot of the Fable A classic that last received mainstream entry in 2010. The project has gone through a long development process since it was first announced in 2020.
As a reboot, Fable is expected to bring a fresh feel while retaining the elements that made the franchise beloved - including a fantasy world full of humor, moral choices that impact characters, and distinctive action-RPG gameplay. Playground Games has never worked on a large-scale RPG game before, so this project is both a challenge and a proving ground for the studio.
With a new schedule in February 2027, Fable is expected to arrive in a mature state and ready to provide the best experience for players. This delay, while disappointing for those who have been waiting for it, could be the right move to give the game the full attention of the market without having to compete in the fall season which is usually packed with big releases.
