Planet Zoo 2 has been officially announced by Frontier Developments, the sequel to the popular zoo simulation game. The game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on October 13, 2026. Pre-orders are available now.

New Features: Aquatic and Flying Animals

Planet Zoo 2 brings a big change by bringing in fully aquatic and flying species for the first time. Players can now build both freshwater and saltwater aquariums, featuring species such as Black-tipped Reef Sharks and Hawksbill Turtles. In addition, specialized aviaries can be built for birds such as Secretary Birds and Toco Toucans that can fly freely.

Animal AI is also significantly improved, covering herd behavior, grazing, and dynamic interactions between species. This makes each zoo feel more alive and authentic than its predecessor.

Wildlife Reserves: Wider Conservation

One of the biggest features Planet Zoo 2 is Wildlife Reserves, The game allows players to expand conservation efforts beyond the confines of the zoo. Players can release animals into a wider custom ecosystem, creating a more immersive and meaningful management experience.

This feature adds a new dimension to the gameplay, where players not only manage the zoo but also contribute to the restoration of natural habitats. This is in line with the conservation theme that is at the core of the franchise. Planet Zoo.

Planet Zoo 2 available in two editions:

  • Standard Edition - $49.99 / Â¥5,610: Includes a copy of the game and pre-order Bonus Content Pack (Toucan Eat shop, three unique donation bins, Tiger photo stand-in wall)
  • Deluxe Edition - $64.99 / Â¥7,700: Includes Deluxe Upgrade Pack with 6 new animal species (Golden Eagle, Golden Lion Tamarin, Great Hammerhead Shark, Axolotl, Blue and Gold Fusilier, Longfin Batfish), exclusive animal signs, and Bonus Content Pack.

Game Mode and Community

Planet Zoo 2 offers three main modes: Career mode with the Fauna and Ecosystems Network (FEN), Franchise mode to trade animals with other players, and Sandbox mode for unlimited creative freedom. Community-generated content remains accessible through Frontier Workshop.

Visually, the game represents a generational leap with smoother animal animations, more realistic fur textures and immersive underwater lighting. More information about the gameplay will be revealed at various upcoming showcases, including the PC Gaming Show at June 7, 2026.
