Adaptation anime for the manga series You Can't Be in a Rom-Com with Your Childhood Friends has been officially announced. The anticipated anime is scheduled to premiere in January 2026. This announcement was accompanied by the release of the trailer and key visual that introduces the world and its characters.

The anime's story centers on Eiyu, a high school student who attends the same school as her two childhood friends, Shio and Akari.
Now, she begins to look at them with romantic and lustful gazes, even though she knows they have no interest in her, which makes her constantly worried. However, Eiyu does not realize that Shio and Akari each also have secrets.
A new trailer has been released featuring footage from the series, accompanied by the closing song “Amanojaku” (Contrarian) performed by Hikari Codama.

The anime is an adaptation of the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Shinya Misu. The manga first launched on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket site in March 2022, and Kodansha has published the 18th volume on November 7.
In Japan, the series is also known by the title Osananajimi to wa LoveCom ni Naranai (I'll Never Have a Romantic Comedy with My Childhood Friend).
With the staff and voice cast already announced, fans can look forward to the premiere in January 2026.
